Airway-Focused Orthodontics in Stuart, FL for Better Breathing and Better Sleep

What is airway orthodontics?

Traditional orthodontics asks one question: are the teeth straight? Airway orthodontics asks a bigger one: why did they come in crooked in the first place?

Crowded teeth, narrow palates, and recessed jaws are often signs that the mouth and airway never developed with enough room. That shows up as mouth breathing, snoring, restless sleep, teeth grinding, and even daytime focus problems that look a lot like ADHD. You'll also hear this approach called airway-focused orthodontics, airway-friendly orthodontics, or treatment for sleep-disordered breathing.

At Napoli Orthodontics, every evaluation includes a look at the airway. We check jaw position, palate width, tongue posture, and breathing habits using digital imaging and the iTero scanner (no goopy impressions). When we find a structural issue, we treat the cause. That can mean guiding jaw growth in children, widening narrow palates, and coordinating with ENTs, sleep physicians, and myofunctional therapists when your child needs more than orthodontics alone.

The result isn't just a straighter smile. It's a child who breathes through their nose, sleeps through the night, and grows the way they're supposed to.

Signs you or your child may benefit from an airway evaluation

Mouth breathing during the day or while sleeping
Difficulty focusing, hyperactivity, or daytime tiredness
Snoring, gasping, or restless, sweaty sleep
Bedwetting beyond the typical age
Teeth grinding (bruxism) at night
A narrow smile, crowded teeth, or resting with the mouth open
Chronic bad breath or chapped lips
In adults: waking unrefreshed, jaw tension, or a diagnosis of mild sleep apnea

Two or more of these sound familiar? An airway evaluation takes one visit and the consultation is complimentary.

What working with Napoli Orthodontics looks like

Free consultation and airway evaluation.

Digital imaging, an iTero 3D scan, and a conversation about sleep, breathing, and habits. About 60 minutes, no pressure.

A cause-first treatment plan.

Dr. Napoli explains what's driving the crowding or breathing issues and walks you through the options in plain English, whether that's expansion, growth guidance, braces, or Invisalign.

Treatment and monitoring.

Appliances like palatal expanders work with your child's natural growth. We track airway changes along the way, not just tooth movement.

Team care when needed.

If your child would benefit from an ENT, a sleep study, or myofunctional therapy, we coordinate directly with trusted Treasure Coast providers.

What does airway orthodontics cost?

Your consultation is complimentary, and it includes the airway evaluation and a digital scan. Treatment cost depends on what we find. A simple expander is very different from a two-phase growth plan, so we'll give you a written estimate before anything starts.

Most dental insurance plans that cover orthodontics apply here, and we offer flexible in-house financing and convenient online payments to keep treatment within your budget. We'll verify your coverage on your first call.

What to expect

No shots, no drilling, no goop. The evaluation is completely comfortable, and kids mostly think the iTero scanner is cool. If an expander or appliance is part of the plan, expect a few days of adjustment (slightly funny speech, mild pressure) before it becomes background noise. Most families tell us the bigger change is at night: quieter sleep, closed lips, and a kid who wakes up actually rested.

You'll see Dr. Napoli at every visit. He is board certified, has practiced orthodontics in Texas and Florida, and serves as Executive Director of the Florida Association of Orthodontists. This is a boutique practice in Historic Downtown Stuart, not a high-volume chain. Same doctor, same team, every appointment.

The Best Ortho Team

Napoli Orthodontics is the best! They were great with my daughter at every visit for her braces! She even got them off early because she listened and followed directions!! Thank you, Napoli Orthodontics!

Frequently asked questions

Braces straighten teeth. Airway orthodontics treats the structure behind the crowding: jaw size, palate width, and tongue posture. Your child breathes and sleeps better, and the straightened teeth are more likely to stay that way. Often the plan still includes braces or Invisalign — they're just one tool instead of the whole toolbox.
